Hydrogen: An opportunity for clean economic growth and diversification for Newfoundland and Labrador

2020 has seen increasing interest on a global scale in the important role that hydrogen might play in the energy transition. With water as its byproduct, if produced through environmentally sound processes, hydrogen may be the gold standard fuel of the future. In this series of presentations we get the 101 on hydrogen, an exploration of what opportunities it may present for Newfoundland and Labrador, and insight on a pilot project taking place in Iceland that may be of great interest.

Hydrogen 101 and the possibilities for Newfoundland and Labrador

Join Kieran Hanley (Executive Director with NEIA ) as he introduces hydrogen, its current applications, its importance in the world's pursuit of net zero emissions, and what all of this means in the Newfoundland and Labrador context. Could hydrogen production unlock our wealth of renewable energy resources, and grow to be a major new industry for the province?

Learning from Iceland's hydrogen production pilot project

In 2019 Landsvirkjun Power started the development of hydro-powered hydrogen production pilot project about 70 km outside of Reykjavík. Join Úlfar Linnet (Business Development - Landsvirkjun Power) and Chad Butler (VP Business Development - Growler Energy) as they discuss the project and the potential application of similar projects in NL.
