Electrification is key to combatting climate change and electricity rates in Newfoundland and Labrador

Switching from fossil fuel to electric processes has two important impacts in Newfoundland and Labrador - (1) it helps reduce our contribution to climate change, and (2) it increases the domestic demand for electricity, assisting in rate mitigation. In this series of presentations we learn about what steps towards electrification are being taken locally in short term, and what the potential is in the long term according to an organization that works towards making Norway a 'fully electrified society'.

The utility perspective on electrification and demand management

What can we expect to happen in the short term with electrification? Join Krista Langthorne (Manager - Business Development) and Stephanie Daley (Manager - Energy Conservation) as they introduce a joint 5-year plan between Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro for electrification and conservation and demand management in the province.

Planning for the long-term: what can we learn from Norway?

Planes, trains, and automobiles - Energi Norge has a vision for Norway to become 'the world's first all-electric society'. Join Kristian Blindheim (Project Manager - Electrification) as he explains the rationale and strategy behind this vision, and learn a little bit about what kind of long-term planning is needed for Newfoundland and Labrador to meet its electrification potential.

The outsider's perspective on clean energy opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador

Our province's clean energy opportunities extend beyond the electricity system. The following presentation is by Mark Zacharias (Special Advisor) from Clean Energy Canada – a climate and clean energy program at Simon Fraser University. It takes the idea of electrification and expands upon it into a broader clean energy discussion, introducing concepts that will be explored more completely throughout the conference.
